5 of the Coolest Weird Creatures on Earth

5 of the Coolest Weird Creatures on Earth

You know, I spend so much time checking out what’s going on in outer space, that I often forget that there is some pretty cool stuff down on this planet too.

Earth is home to some of the strangest creatures that you will ever see.  Who needs aliens when Mother Nature can create wildlife that would make a Hollywood creature creator jealous.

I’ve decided to pull together some of the oddest animals that I’ve ever seen.  Feel free as always to add any that you can think of in the Comments below.

So, in no particular order, here are some of the Coolest Weird Creatures on Earth!

The Anglerfish

Remember the “light bulb” fish from Finding Nemo?  That was none other than the Anglerfish, one of the ocean’s weirdest creatures.  It is actually the female that has the funky lure.  The video below, gives a great description of this odd and scary-looking fish.  The videos and link are from an article on http://www.rt.com

The Peacock Spider

This colourful little guy goes all out to impress the ladies with his dance moves!  Found in Australia, there are 48 species of this tiny arachnid.  Check out this channel from Peacockspiderman, aka Jurgen Otto.

The Shoebill

This bird can chomp on a baby crocodile, and resembles something from the Earth’s past.  Presenting Africa’s Shoebill!  Read some fun facts from Zambia Tourism about this odd duck bird, and see what happens when a family encounters one at a zoo.

The Platypus

We all know about its beaver tail and duckbill, but its “sixth sense” and venom????  The cute and odd platypus is actually an efficient killer.  Learn more from National Geographic.

The Stubby Squid

Looking like a child’s toy, this adorable-looking creature was found during an expedition by the EVNautilus.  Click the link for details, and the video for the discovery.

About Me…

1,000 Likes! Thanks Everyone!

1,000 Likes! Thanks Everyone!

My one year anniversary of living in the WordPress blogosphere is in a few weeks (April 11th), so you can imagine my delight when I saw this.

likeable-blog-1000-2x

A great big WISH I COULD TAKE YOU ALL OUT FOR A COFFEE, BEER OR WHATEVER OTHER BEVERAGE YOU WOULD PREFER thank you to everyone who follows me, or even just drops in once in a while.

You are all awesome and have excellent taste.   😉

Now, I am writing stuff here that I should probably be saving for my anniversary, but since the opportunity is here, I’m just going to take it.

First, some numbers.  Including this one, I have done 118 posts, with over 2,700 views and over 1,400 visitors.  My countries list is big, and stretches from here in Canada to the US, the UK, Hong Kong, South Africa, France, Australia, UAE, Russia, Japan….I think that you get the idea.   😉

All that said, I never planned on trying to create a huge blog.  This forum is my break from whatever is going on in my life, so that’s exactly how I set it up.  I have changed things a bit since I started, such as how often I post, but at its creamy, milk chocolate center (mmmmm, chocolate), ©Written In Geek is all about offering a place where you can just pop in for a bit.

Here are a few things that I have learned along the way:

1. Online friends may not be the same as real world, “known them for 20 years” kinda friends, BUT they are friends none the less.  Thank you to my online friends for sharing a bit of your life with me and allowing me to do the same.

2. I can actually write stuff.  Heh, who knew?  I started this blog to get out of a very long dry spell and now I can proudly say that I did NaNoWriMo and am actively pursuing writing stuff that I want to see published.  On that note, the book is on hold for a bit right now.  I really need to work on some of my writing weaknesses, so I am turning my attention to short stories and such.  I will occasionally pop over to the novel to see if my characters are still speaking to me.  😉

3. I’ve taught myself how to do a podcast, and actually did one as an interview.  For someone who is as shy as I am that is HUGE!  I have actually done five interviews on this blog so far.

4. I have written about horror and I have written about laughter.  I’ve shown my dark side and my lighter one.  This forum has given me the chance to do that.

That’s pretty cool.  🙂

5. I am TOTALLY using this post as an excuse to avoid homework right now.   🙂

Well, I guess that I should stop here or else I won’t know what to post on my actual first anniversary.  I have some ideas, but knowing me, I will probably make a decision around 10 o’clock the night before.  No one has ever done a blog like that I’m sure.    😉

Thanks again everyone for hanging out with me.  I hope to keep you amused for a very long time!   🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Now, as many of you know I love my music, so today I will leave you with the following.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!!!

– Tina

About Me…

The Blue Sky Tag

The Blue Sky Tag

Thanks to the amazing Devereaux of Creative Writing of a Baltimorean for this nomination.  If you want heartfelt posts and beautiful poetry, his site is definitely worth checking out.  My oldest has Aspergers Syndrome, but was diagnosed at a younger age. Reading these posts and seeing the similarities and differences to my own teen’s experiences, makes me appreciate having the chance to connect online like we all do.

So, the rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Answer the 11 questions.
  3. Tag 11 people.
  4. Give your nominees 11 questions to answer.

Here are my answers to the questions:

1. Where do you see yourself in five years?

Working back in a library.  I should be finished my Library diploma in a few years.

2. What’s more important: courage or honesty?

Definitely honesty, although I guess I could say both in a way.  Admitting to fear and being true to yourself takes courage.  Honesty can sometimes be frightening.

3. What’s the best place you’ve visited?

I have been fortunate enough to have traveled a lot.  It’s a toss up between the UK and my home turf of Nova Scotia.

4. Favorite season?

I am definitely an Autumn girl.

5. Worst memory as a kid?

Being bullied to the point of wanting to give up.  My oldest was also bullied when he was younger, and seeing him go through some of the same emotions broke my heart.  He’s tough though, and made it through the other side a stronger person.

6. If someone gave you $200 million to stop writing, would you?

No, but I would do it for $200 million and fifty cents.  Just kidding.  😉  I gave up writing once and no amount of money would ever have me do it again.

7. Did dinosaurs really exist?

Of course and the coolest part is that some still do!  Sharks and crocodiles haven’t changed a whole lot in thousands of years.

8. If you could be president for a day, what’s the first thing you’d do?

Well, it would be Prime Minister in my case, but I am honestly not sure what I would do first.  Given the current political climate, I’m glad to not have that responsibility.

9. Worst college experience?

My university life was actually pretty great.  Met many of my life long friends there.  If I have to pick something, it would be getting so drunk at a BBQ that I don’t remember how I got home.  It turns out that it was my new boyfriend who made sure that I was okay.

We now have two teens.  🙂

10. Favorite sports team?

I am not a sports person, but I would have to say Gryffindor’s Quidditch team.

11. Faced against King Kong, pick three animals to fight alongside you.

A bear (for strength), a wolverine (those things can be nasty) and a cheetah (the animal kingdom’s answer to The Flash).

Now my nominees….this was tough to narrow down.  There are some amazing people out there.  🙂

Barsetshire Diaries

lizalizaskysaregrey

HM Waugh

sinisterdarksoul

Jade M. Wong

Roberta Pimentel

Mom of Two Little Girls

Terrible Minds: Chuck Wendig

X-Men: The Animated Series

Rationalising the Universe

Freaking Out and Geeking Out

…and here are my 11 questions

  1. What frightens you the most?
  2. Coffee or tea? (I am not addicted to coffee, I just have a VERY strong appreciation for the bean.  😉  ).
  3. Have you ever traveled outside your country?
  4. Would you survive a zombie apocalypse?
  5. Name one thing on your bucket list.
  6. What’s the thing that you are most proud of?
  7. Would you ever travel to outer space?
  8. Are you a morning person or a night owl?
  9. If you could have a superpower/mutant ability, what would it be?
  10. Do you have a phobia?
  11. Do you use a lot of social media or do you just have your blog (and maybe one other account, such as Facebook).

That was fun!  🙂

Check out my nominees and I look forward to seeing everyone’s answers!
